Principal Scientist

SLR is seeking a principal scientist to serve in an hourly as needed (HAN) support role. This position is assigned to the Anchorage, Alaska office and will report to Joe Rubino, US Manager of Environmental Assessment. At least 20 years of environmental experience working in planning, assessments and permitting is required.

The principal scientist will work on projects focused on National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, environmental permitting, and regulatory compliance.

• Developing documents to support the NEPA process for exploration and development projects and providing permitting support for exploration, development, and seismic projects.
• Providing strategic advice to clients regarding environmental permitting.
• Participating in stakeholder engagement (agencies, interest groups, and community members) to obtain necessary permits in a timely manner while minimizing operational limitations.

This HAN work is primarily to support billable client work. There may also be opportunities to support project pursuits and work on non-billable items such as attending client meetings, proposal preparation, and company or technical trainings. Pre-approval from the line manager is required to be compensated for overhead services when working on any non-billable tasks.
