Learning Assistants (LAs) are UAA students who support, guide, and assist fellow students in high demand courses. Gateway courses require students to demonstrate comprehension of course material so that they are prepared to complete other major requirements. LAs help students articulate, defend and modify their ideas by facilitating conversations, discussions, and in-class activities.

LAs work closely with their Lead Faculty (the faculty member teaching the course the LA is assigned to) and attend onboarding and training with other LAs. LAs are employees of the Learning Commons which is the home of many free peer learning services including tutoring, coaching, and more.
