Overview
The College of Arts & Sciences Fine Arts Building is recruiting for student Event Support Assistants. Student assistants work on campus on an as needed basis during the fall and spring semester, mostly in the evening and on weekends, with the possible additional work in the summers.
ResponsibilitiesEvent Support Assistants are responsible for ensuring that events within the Fine Arts Building operate smoothly both in front of house and behind the scenes. They will be asked to take on various front and/or back of house roles as needed to ensure events run smoothly in a welcoming environment.
- Front of House tasks may include ticket sales, patron attendance tracking, usher orientation/coordination, enforcement of general theater policies such as seating or food and beverage policies, maintaining a clean and secure house and lobby, and answering general questions from patrons and visitors.
- Behind the Scenes tasks may include operating sounds, lighting, recording, and video equipment, videotaping events for building departments and/or resident organizations, and level one troubleshooting of audio/visual needs and equipment in building classrooms.
Event assistants should be organized, able to follow detailed instructions, work independently, exercise sound judgment, and communicate clearly and positively with other students, staff, faculty, clients, and patrons in the building. Dependability is crucial. Students must be able to work assigned hours, with weekend and evening hours required.
Minimum QualificationsTo be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:
- Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
- Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or be a newly enrolled student.
This position requires the ability to lift 50 lbs., work in high, tight spaces, and maneuver small flights of stairs.
Position DetailsThis position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a part-time, Student Assistant 2 position with a minimum pay of $14.96/hour.
