Educational Specialist

Job Statement/Purpose

The Educational Specialist is responsible for the delivery of educational content that is focused on the intersection of US History/Civics, Alaska History/Civics, Alaska Native civic structures, and Alaska Native culture. This role is intended for individuals who have a depth of experience navigating the civic structures of the Alaska Native community, including but not limited to ANCSA Corporations, Alaska Native non‑profits, Tribal governments, and the Alaskan State Government.

The individual who fills this role will have a strong capability to present to public audiences and will utilize the best educational methods for elevating the knowledge of both teachers and students within Anchorage School District.

• Deliver educational sessions to teachers and students in classrooms, at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, and virtually via teleconferencing software such as Zoom.
• Contribute to the development of curriculum for the educational sessions to teachers and students.
• Break projects into doable actions and set time frames.
• Liaise with partners to engage with the content development process.
• Monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise.
• Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants and partners.
• Work with the Program Manager to ensure the execution of the project plan.
• Use tools to monitor working hours, plans and expenditures.
• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans and reports.
• Ensure standards and requirements are met through conducting quality assurance tests.

• Proven work experience as a teacher, Program Coordinator, or similar role.
• Experience in presenting educational materials to the public.
• An ability to prepare and interpret schedules and step‑by‑step action plans.
• Solid organizational skills, including multitasking and time‑management.
• Strong client‑facing and teamwork skills.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
• Hands‑on experience with educational projects.
• Bachelor degree in Education or comparable educational experience.
• Education, Social enterprise, or professional development experience preferred.
• Be able to prepare reports in Word and Excel.
• Have basic computer skills.
• Skill in the use of copier, fax, and other office equipment.

• Have basic knowledge of Alaska, Alaska’s history, and Alaska Native civics.
• Have basic understanding of ANHC’s mission, direction, and history or be willing to receive training.
• Must have strong knowledge of the networks of educational services for students and teachers.

• Receive direction and guidance from department supervisors.
• Work as a team or independently.
• Ability to solve problems individually and seek assistance from the supervisor as needed.

• Additional duties as assigned based on needs of the business.

• The ability to travel 50% of the time.

• Indoors:
  Primarily in an environmentally controlled office, on or off‑site.
• Outdoors:
  Ability to work in all Alaska weather conditions.

• Quiet to moderate, with occasional periods of extreme loudness.

• Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
• Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
