Job Summary
The Kindergarten Bilingual/Biliterate Paraprofessional Educator assists the teacher with classroom activities and student supervision. Work involves a variety of clerical tasks and student monitoring. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).
Job Requirements- A high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program.
- Fluency in the foreign language of the classroom’s instruction.
- Must meet paraprofessional requirements for the state of Alaska through one of the following methods: 48 college semester credits from a regionally accredited institution, a passing score of 459 or greater on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment exam, passing the Work Keys by ACT assessment, or passing the ASD provided Master Teacher paraprofessional training.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and inspire confidence and cooperation of staff, parents, students, administrators, and the public.
- Knowledge of first aid.
- Experience in typing and general clerical work.
- Ability to work with people of all age levels.
- Ability to convey effectively explanations of policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Anchorage School District employees must possess the ability to read and write in English and communicate in English with school staff, co-workers, and the public.
- Prepares class materials at direction of the teacher.
- Sets up class projects using guidelines established by the teacher.
- Handles routine reports needed to complete informational requirements.
- Records grades as assigned by the teacher.
- Checks attendance for assigned classes and assists with discipline for students as required.
- Aids pupils to carry out routine practice exercises assigned by the teacher, including listening to pupils read.
- Assists with assembling and putting materials on display.
- Assists with supervision of pupils on the school grounds under the direction of a teacher.
- Assists with supervising a student, or group of students, during the lunch period.
- Checks objective tests and marks errors, but does not determine final grades.
- Types letters, requisitions, inventories, cards, bulletins, bills, reports, ledgers, stencils, transcripts, tests, notices, and other administrative teacher and student materials.
- Maintains student and teacher files.
Frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Must reach, lift less than 40 lbs, understand vague instructions, handle conflict, and manage stress while working with diverse individuals.
Work EnvironmentProfessional environment with diverse personalities. May be exposed to video display, outdoor weather, moderate noise level.

Salary: $19.47 to $20.42 per hour, DOE
4% increase to the base hourly pay rate for the bilingual requirement, per the TOTEM/ASD agreement.
