Overview

Event Services Assistants assist and support community members and residential students who have a variety of needs, questions, and issues; promote an ethos of belonging and engagement with the community on UAA’s residential campus; and support the many aspects of Event Services  role of the Event Services Assistant is typically a one-year position.

Event Services is the department that handles the majority of events on campus as well as long-term guest housing for non-students. We have customer service related tasks, cleaning tasks, event tasks, and a variety of special projects that come up. The Event Services student position has 3 main components. The first main component is the office hours where the student sits at the main desk, answers phone calls and emails, and fills in event requests from submitted forms.

They will need to be able to assist with walk-in clients as well and keep the office presentable. The second main component are event duties where the student will need to set up events, work events, and break down events. The third main component is centered around our long-term guest housing. We clean and prep rooms and have an on-duty 24/7 phone that is on a weekly rotation with the student staff to assist current guests as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Manage office hours at the main desk: answer phone calls and emails, process event requests from forms, assist walk-in clients, and keep the office presentable.
  • Assist with event duties: set up events, work events, and break down events as needed.
  • Support long-term guest housing: clean and prep rooms and respond to guest needs via the on-duty 24/7 phone (weekly rotation).
  • Contribute to customer service, cleaning tasks, and special projects as they arise.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
  • Have at least a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (GPA).
  • An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.
  • FERPA certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
  • Title IX certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
  • Behavior Based Safety (BBS) certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
  • Workplace Harassment Prevention certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
  • Protecting Payment Card Information training (annual training).
Position Details

This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. This is a part-time, Student Assistant 2 position with a starting pay of $16.20/hour.
