Join a high-performing team on a complex, high-visibility, multi-year construction project at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. This is a mission-critical role for individuals who thrive in demanding environments and are driven by the challenge of delivering excellence.

The SSHO is a key leadership position responsible for the execution of the project’s safety program, ensuring all work is performed to the highest standards and in strict compliance with EM 385-1-1 and contract requirements.

This role requires full-time on-site presence and an unwavering commitment to safety, accountability, and results. Ideal candidates are disciplined, proactive, and energized by the opportunity to shape success on one of the region’s most challenging construction efforts.

Hire is subject to prior approval of qualifications by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide general and continuous safety oversight for assigned construction projects.

Observe work performed to ensure compliance with all safety standards, reporting and resolving deficiencies promptly.

Conduct daily safety and health inspections and maintain written logs including areas inspected, identified hazards, corrective actions, and completion dates.

Develop and implement Accident Prevention Plans (APP), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA), and Environmental Prevention Plans (EPP).

Implement and enforce the Company’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Policies and Programs.

Conduct or lead safety meetings and toolbox talks as directed by Project Management or site leadership.

Maintain a safety and health deficiency tracking system to monitor and close outstanding deficiencies.

Ensure subcontractor and vendor compliance with all safety and health requirements; maintain applicable regulatory safety materials on-site.

Track, verify, and review employee safety training records, licenses, and certifications.

Ensure compliance with OSHA 1926, OSHA 1910, and USACE EM 385-1-1 regulations applicable to construction and industrial operations.

Support project start-up activities by assisting in risk identification, pre-task planning, and site-specific safety orientation.

Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and client representatives to resolve safety issues and promote a safety culture.

Maintain effective communication with company personnel, subcontractors, clients, and government representatives (e.g., USACE, USAF).

Ensure all required documentation, postings, and permits are visible and current on-site.

Perform investigations and prepare reports for all incidents, near-misses, and safety violations.

Assist with the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).

Provide mentoring and guidance to site personnel to reinforce best safety practices and ensure continual improvement.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability and willingness to abide by the company’s Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures.

Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926, OSHA 1910, and USACE EM 385-1-1 safety regulations.

Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental requirements.

Working understanding of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ 3-Phase Quality Control System and safety reporting procedures.

Knowledge of Engineering Manual 385-1-1 and familiarity with USACE and NAVFAC safety standards.

Ability to problem-solve effectively to maintain compliance with safety and operational requirements.

Excellent organizational and documentation skills, with high attention to detail.

Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety codes, standards, and regulations to field conditions.

Strong communication skills with the ability to present safety information clearly to groups and individuals.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment in decision-making.

Commitment to supporting and promoting a strong company safety culture.

Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
