What can you expect?

Based at the Anchorage office, you will travel to field jobsites to implement project delivery systems while performing general construction duties in extreme Alaskan conditions. You will aid the project management team in planning, coordinating, and closing out construction projects, primarily small‑scale, short‑term projects (under one million dollars, 6–18 months) across Alaska.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all project aspects including estimating, bidding, reporting, client interface, timeline, and day‑to‑day oversight.
  • Develop proposals, cost estimates, and bids.
  • Manage submittals and approvals; prepare change requests; monitor plan reviews and design change requests.
  • Procure and schedule materials, equipment, team members, and subcontractors.
  • Determine labor requirements and best source of construction materials.
  • Oversee delivery of materials, tools, and equipment; ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Ensure project team analysis of drawings, specifications, schedule, environmental requirements, and quality expectations is accurate.
  • Communicate technical questions and RFIs to field crews.
  • Track time and expenses to budget; prepare progress reports.
  • Oversee documentation and retention of start‑up, commissioning, contracts, completion, as‑built, and close‑out records.
  • Oversee site progress; may require overnight stays up to multiple weeks.
  • Ensure required reporting is received and thorough (safety reports, daily updates, photos, timecards, etc.).
  • Perform physical labor (arms, legs, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, handling materials).
  • Ensure safe execution per contract specifications; support STG’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Work as a team‑player with coworkers in a respectful and supportive manner.
  • Assist Project Managers with related tasks; seek and participate in development and training opportunities.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but oversees work of project support staff and laborers.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Technical knowledge of field construction concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of construction, architecture, and building industry standard practices/procedures.
  • Knowledge of procurement rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic revenue models, project ledger, and cost‑to‑completion projections.
  • Organize resources, establish priorities, meet deadlines, general time management.
  • Effective professional communication and interpersonal skills: internal/external written, graphical, verbal communications, presentations, negotiation working with other departments.
  • Analytical and forecasting skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions.
  • Read, comprehend, and explain construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Computer proficiency:
    Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Prepare accurate budgets and cost estimates.
  • Read and understand complex contract documents.
  • Gather data, compile information, prepare reports.
  • Basic math, detect hidden facts and issues, resourcefulness in resolving problems.
  • Self‑motivation and work ethic; work without direct supervision.
  • Build effective working relationships with field crews, customers, and organizations; exceptional follow‑up skills.
  • Work productively under pressure.
  • Actively listen and provide high‑quality customer service.
  • Do business ethically with customers, vendors, and co‑workers.
  • Comply with and enforce standard policies and procedures.
  • Operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently.
  • Travel for work‑related purposes (up to 30% of time).
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) or more years of Engineering or Construction related project experience.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) and project management software.
