ResponsibilitiesActive participation in the issuance of written decisions and orders by proofreading drafts, incorporating approved edits, preparing opinion caption pages, and coordinating with the Clerk’s Office to submit final dispositions to publishers.
Finalize conference agendas and oversee case tracking for statistical reporting. Review and place cases on multiple weekly panel conference agendas, publish and circulate agendas to internal court users, ensure all case materials are available for conferences, verify the accuracy of post-conference dispositions, update case records, monitor case progression, and ensure compliance with the six‑month rule.
Comprehensive administrative support to the assigned judge by assisting with supervision of chambers staff, managing bi‑weekly payroll submissions and judicial pay affidavits, coordinating work assignments with law clerks and staff attorneys, liaising with the Clerk of the Appellate Courts and Human Resources, supporting annual law clerk, and handling travel arrangements and related reimbursement requests.
Qualifications- Ability to establish priorities, perform assignments independently, and maintain confidentiality.
- Substantial experience editing and proofreading professional documents.
- Ability to monitor the work and deadlines of judicial law clerks.
- Experience developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of individuals.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions following a minimum of explanation.
- Ability to communicate complex information about policies and procedures.
- Experience maintaining office files and/or records systems.
- Ability to handle with courtesy and tact a wide variety of court system contacts, in writing and in person.
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate. Three years of progressively responsible, fully qualified work experience as an administrative assistant.
Substitution options:
- Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.
- Twelve months of work experience performing general clerical work that demonstrates work skills equal to those of a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System will substitute for one year of the required clerical work experience.
Full‑time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one‑hour lunch break.
