Position Summary

As a Service and Repair Technician in the fire protection industry, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, maintaining, testing, and repairing fire alarm systems to ensure reliable operation and code compliance. This role is critical to supporting customers in the field by diagnosing issues, completing repairs efficiently, documenting work accurately, and helping ensure fire alarm systems are restored to proper working order.

Key Responsibilities and Objectives System Installation and Programming
  • Install, configure, and program advanced fire alarm systems, including control panels, detectors, alarms, and notification devices.
  • Customize system programming to meet project requirements and support integration with other building systems.
Maintenance and Repair
  • Perform regular maintenance and testing to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues; report technical problems; execute repairs and replace components as needed.
Compliance and Documentation
  • Ensure systems comply with federal, state, and local fire safety codes and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, repairs, and service activities.
  • Complete required documentation for compliance and reporting purposes.
Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate with technicians and service personnel to complete projects and support emergency response situations.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
Communication
  • Communicate with clients to understand needs and provide technical support and recommendations.
  • Conduct client training on system operations and maintenance.
Miscellaneous Tasks
  • Travel to project sites as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Skills
  • Fire alarm system installation, configuration, and programming (panels, detectors, alarms, notification devices).
  • Programming customization to meet project requirements and integrate with building systems.
  • Preventative maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, repairs, and component replacement.
  • Code compliance awareness (federal/state/local) and thorough service documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and engineering/software applications.
Soft Skills & Competencies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical information clearly to clients.
  • Customer‑focused approach to understanding needs and providing recommendations and training.
