BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform journey-level painting of District facilities to protect and preserve exterior and interior surfaces.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION:
Graduation from high school.
EXPERIENCE:
Completion of an approved painting apprenticeship program or two years experience in painting.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid, appropriate California driver's license at time of appointment, and throughout employment in a position in this classification.

Different paints and their proper applications;
Safety rules and regulations;
Equipment operation used in the painting function. - ABILITY TO: Provide work direction and guidance as necessary;
Work cooperatively with others;
Maintain work pace appropriate to given workload.
- Seeing to mix and match paint colors.
- Climbing ladders and scaffolding.
- Balancing.
- Pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Reaching overhead and above the shoulders.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate painting equipment and tools.
- Indoor and outdoor environment.
- Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
- Working at heights to perform work from scaffolding and platforms.
- Regular exposure to vapors from paints and solvents.
- Potential exposure to lead-based paints.

- Perform journey-level brush, roller and spray painting on various types of interior and exterior surfaces; paint and letter signs and equipment; match paints, stains and lacquers.
- Prepare surfaces for painting, patching, plaster, scraping, sanding, fitting and applying primers; operate and maintain high pressure water and sand blasting equipment.
- Paint over graffiti on walls, doors and sidewalks.
- Consult with principals, teachers and department heads to plan painting assignments; recommend paints or finishes and procedures to protect and beautify surfaces at minimum cost.
- Develop and maintain records of painting, labor and materials costs and other records necessary for the painting function.
- Operate a variety of maintenance and construction tools and equipment; drive a vehicle to assigned sites to conduct work; respond to emergency and non-emergency calls as needed.
- Work from verbal and written instructions, blueprints, sketches and work orders.
- Responsible for assigned vehicle and shop; order and stock an adequate supply of parts and materials.
- May be asked to spot check work of contractors and work crews to update supervisors on status of projects.
- Provide work direction and guidance to other assigned maintenance personnel on a project basis.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
