Job Description

Acts as a resource for the Vice President of IT Operations to facilitate the design and implementation of networks, security and telecommunications systems.

  • Design, modifies, configures, tests and implements network, security and telecommunications applications and operating systems.
  • Has expertise in a variety of network and telephony protocols.
  • Provides technical guidance and support for networking and telecom staff.
  • Conducts system analysis, industry research and proposes design upgrades to keep systems current with changing technologies.
  • The position requires skills for building relationships with internal clients, including peer IT groups and staff, analytical skills for investigation and reporting, and leadership skills for the development of systems that support communication and security.
Essential Position Functions
  • Design and develop networking, security and communication systems, making specific determinations regarding system design and performance.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to production problems for supported systems and applications.
  • Conduct system analysis and configuration, with limited support from professional consultants, to keep our systems current with changing technologies.
  • Analyze, design, coordinate and supervise the deployment of network and telecommunications systems to form a basis for the solution of information processing problems.
  • Analyze system specifications and translate system requirements to task specifications for IT staff.
  • Responsible for analysis of current network, security and telecommunications applications and systems, including performance diagnosis, troubleshooting of problems and designing solutions to problematic communication and networking issues.
  • Configure, edit and troubleshoot new systems and configurations for assigned projects, including secure data throughput.
  • Document configuration consistently throughout the deployment and support process by documenting design, special installation or support instructions, and any changes made in configurations.
  • Utilize tools and equipment involved in the performance of essential functions of networking, security and telecommunications systems, including testing and measuring instruments.
  • Maintain positive internal and external client interactions.
  • Research and recommend network management and support tools to management.
  • Provide assistance to testers and support personnel as needed to determine system problems.
  • Review, to the extent possible, changes in the networking and telecommunications environment that will affect communications performance.
  • Provide recommendations to senior management concerning network topology, security settings or telecommunications performance.
  • Attend regular staff meetings, prepare brief correspondence and reports, verbally communicate technical information, make presentations to groups outside the immediate work area, develop and document procedures, follow up and research questions and needed information, and interact with managers and senior management from different credit union clients on a regular basis.
  • Interact with networking and server support staff.
Professional Certifications

CCNP, CCIE, MCSE or security certifications preferred.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7‑10 years of experience in network, security, telecom or IT systems development (or equivalent experience that offsets the educational requirement).
  • Good working knowledge of moderately complex systems, including experience with EIGRP, F5, Palo Alto, BGP, OSPF, SD‑WAN, VPN, IDS, IPS, TACACS, RSA.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and completely.
  • Solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts, including emerging software‑defined networks and CCaaS systems.
