Human Resources Manager (Temporary)

This position is a temporary contract role at Aston Carter, located in Anaheim, CA. The role has an expected duration of at least six months and focuses on employee relations, manager coaching, payroll auditing, and benefit administration.

Responsibilities
  • Advises managers on organizational policy matters and recommends necessary changes.
  • Creates and maintains employment records related to hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, promotions, and performance reviews.
  • Performs onboarding and termination processes for employees.
  • Audits weekly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensures all required weekly and monthly reports are accurate and submitted on time.
  • Advise and assist supervisors and managers in administering discipline and handling grievances.
  • Performs benefit administration including claims resolution, participant enrollment, and communication of benefit information.
  • Negotiates and approves property and casualty insurance as well as workers' compensation insurance.
  • Supports managers and employees with HR needs.
  • Maintains and protects employee files and documents, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Safeguards information obtained or developed in workplace investigations.
  • Administers and advises on performance and disciplinary actions.
Essential Skills
  • 5+ years of HR experience, with at least 2 in a managerial role.
  • Proficiency in human resources management, employee relations, and HR administration.
  • Experience with union or certified payroll.
  • 2+ years of payroll experience, including auditing and full‑cycle processing.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and ability to coach managers on handling difficult situations.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM certification preferred.
  • Experience in a larger, more complex company.
  • Familiarity with certified payroll processes.
Work Environment

This is a 100% onsite position. Working hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM with a 30‑minute lunch break. The environment is a blue‑collar, male‑dominated field focused on construction and utility projects. Candidates should be comfortable with informal language and a dynamic, hands‑on setting. The team consists of 126 employees, primarily based in California, and the HR function is supported by the CEO, Operations Manager, and the broader organization.

Hourly rate: $55.00 – $58.00.
