Overview
The Banquet Captain is responsible for coordinating and supervising banquet functions for the hotel when the Banquet Manager is not available, or to assist the Banquet Manager during functions. They supervise service personnel to ensure guest satisfaction and presentation standards are consistently achieved.
Responsibilities- Under general supervision, coordinate and supervise catered events based on client specifications and the Banquet Event Order.
- Work with Food and Beverage Managers, Banquet Manager, Banquet Chef, and others to coordinate event operation.
- Supervise banquet staff during all phases of catered events; communicate expectations and service goals to staff.
- Assist in creating and implementing employee incentives, morale-boosting programs, and department goals.
- Coordinate food service between kitchen and banquet service staff; inspect linens for proper appearance; assist with inventory of banquet service ware, equipment and supplies.
- Enforce club rules, regulations and policies; prepare and review setup needs for special functions; participate in pre-function briefings.
- Ensure staff are well-groomed and in proper uniform; assist with training, scheduling and evaluating banquet staff.
- Assist with ensuring compliance with state/local laws and company policies for the service of alcoholic beverages.
- Attend banquet department meetings and collaborate with management to improve efficiency and procedures.
- Complete other appropriate assignments as directed by the Banquet Manager.
- Education and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent; previous fine dining and banquet experience; minimum two years of banquet supervisory experience; must be at least 19 years of age to serve alcohol; proven track record in successfully assisting all types of banquet functions and other special events; some liquor and public entertainment license knowledge. - Licenses and
Certifications:
Food safety certification;
Alcohol beverage certification. - Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must stand for long periods, walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, reach; push/pull or lift up to 50 pounds; continuous repetitive motions; work in hot, humid and noisy environments. - Job Knowledge and
Skills:
Knowledge of banquet and kitchen equipment; ability to perform in emergency situations; strong communication, organizational and follow-through skills; ability to demonstrate proper banquet wine service; flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and split shifts.
- Pay Rate: $24.23 plus tips;
