Overview
UCI Health is the clinical enterprise of the University of California, Irvine. The Biller IV is a Denial Specialist who serves as a resource to other staff dealing with difficult accounts and troubleshooting. The Denials Specialist may be assigned to a specialized area of Patient Financial Services (PFS) and will respond to questions from patients, physicians, payers and others (including attorneys) regarding the status of accounts.
The Denials Specialist will identify payer trends to assist in resolution and will act as a liaison between PFS and contracted vendors.
- Serve as Denial Specialist for a designated area of PFS with advanced knowledge to support staff and resolve issues.
- Respond to questions from patients, physicians, payers and others about account status, including attorneys when applicable.
- Identify payer trends and assist in resolution; act as a liaison between Patient Financial Services and contracted vendors.
- Required Qualifications: Skilled at using computerized systems to maintain/update patient accounting information; strong math skills; excellent written and verbal communication in English; effective interaction with PFS staff, organizational leaders, payers, patients and families; data entry proficiency; experience with CPT, HCPC and ICD billing codes, authorization requirements and related documentation; knowledge of revenue cycle processes in a healthcare setting; ability to train staff;
problem-solving abilities; ability to resolve routine and non-routine errors independently; ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to workload; ability to facilitate cash collection on patient accounts; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the health system. - Preferred Qualifications: Prior reimbursement analyst experience; minimum 5 years’ experience as a Denial Specialist; knowledge of University and medical center policies, procedures and forms.
