We are seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical to lead and manage geotechnical projects throughout all phases of construction. This role involves ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, regulations, and codes while driving operational excellence and business growth.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the primary liaison between the Geotechnical/Special Inspection Group and the Construction Management team.
- Develop and implement an engineering strategy aligned with Willdan Engineering’s business objectives, including a business development plan.
- Ensure adherence to state, local, and federal regulations.
- Contribute to revenue strategies and expenditure goals to meet profit objectives.
- Review financial reports against budgets to guide departmental performance.
- Coach and support the Geotechnical Engineering and Materials Testing team in managing controllable expenses.
- Proactively identify potential issues and present solutions to the Director of Construction Management.
- Educate staff on the financial impact of departmental operations.
- Prepare high-quality proposals and cost estimates for new and repeat business.
- Oversee geotechnical and geological design, analysis, research, and review of testing results, calculations, and reports.
- Supervise engineering tasks to ensure timely, on-budget project completion.
- Foster a fair and equitable work environment, maintaining open communication and addressing employee concerns promptly.
- Promote ongoing communication to align daily operations with business objectives.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including soil and rock property development, foundation design and analysis, dynamic load analysis, earthworks, pile installation/testing, numerical analysis, slope stability, and construction specifications.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Geotechnical Engineer (G.E.) license in California; related Geologist certification preferred.
- Proven leadership in project and client management.
- Experience with geotechnical/material testing per Caltrans and AASHTO standards.
- Familiarity with Caltrans QAP and LAPM standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, control budgets, meet deadlines, and deliver quality results.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, budgeting, and communication skills.
