- Perform, direct, and review engineering projects related to planning, analysis, permitting, design, and implementation of municipal water supply system projects.
- Participate in selection of private consulting engineering services, prepare proposals, conduct interviews, and review consultant qualifications.
- Assist higher‑level engineers on large and complex development and public works construction projects.
- Serve as project manager on complex construction projects; administer project from inception to completion including design, review, public meetings, bidding, and construction; develop scope of work; liaise with City staff, developers, engineers, consultants, the general public and external agencies; develop project timelines and oversee consultant staff.
- Supervise, plan, prioritize, assign, and review work of project staff and consultants; provide or coordinate staff training; implement discipline procedures when necessary.
- Respond to questions and inquiries from the general public, developers, contractors, engineering professionals, and City staff; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action.
- Serve as staff to a variety of City commissions, boards and committees; prepare engineering studies, reports and presentations including initial environmental impact and water supply industry reports.
- Attend professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in civil engineering.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Lead, train, and review work of staff responsible for professional and technical level engineering work.
- Train employees in engineering methods, procedures, and techniques.
- Verify work of assigned employees for accuracy, compliance with standards, and safe work practices.
- Support preparation of an annual operating budget; review and track revenues and expenditures.
- Determine scope of engineering projects; prepare requests for proposals and contracts for complex consulting services.
- Participate in preparation of regional, state and federal grants; monitor application requests and approved grant programs.
Senior Civil Engineer
Experience and
Education:
Three years of professional engineering experience plus a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field. Equivalent experience or education qualifies.
License/Certification:
Valid California driver’s license; registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in California.
Associate Engineer
Experience and
Education:
Two years of professional engineering experience plus a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field. Equivalent experience or education qualifies.
License/Certification:
Valid California driver’s license;
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
