Kelly Services is looking for a Solar Technician that specializes in Battery and Energy Storage Solutions (BESS). This role will travel all over Southern California with some travel perhaps in the US. This is a long-term contract role with benefits. Pay is very competitive.
Our customer will provide you with everything you'll need including tools, uniform, vehicle, laptop, cell phone, and paid travel and lodging accommodations when needed.
Position Title:Field Services Technician – BESS Focus Role
Summary:
We are seeking a Field Services Technician with a strong focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This position will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of BESS units across the United States with a large focus on Southern California area. While the role may include some work with photovoltaic (PV) inverters, the primary responsibility will be ensuring the optimal performance and uptime of BESS infrastructure.
- Perform field service operations on BESS equipment to ensure high availability and reliability.
- Install, commission, and start up BESS systems at customer sites.
- Troubleshoot and repair faults in battery systems, inverters, and associated control equipment.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Inspect physical installation of BESS systems including wiring, terminations, grounding, and mechanical integrity.
- Program and configure system parameters to ensure proper integration and performance.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot operational anomalies.
- Maintain accurate service logs and documentation of findings, repairs, and performance metrics.
- Assist in the development and refinement of maintenance protocols and safety procedures.
- Deliver excellent customer service and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Provide timely and detailed service reports to internal teams and clients.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience with inverters and battery energy storage systems.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively (up to 100%) throughout the U.S.
- Associate’s degree in a technical field or equivalent industry certifications preferred.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Prior experience in the solar or renewable energy service sector is a plus.
- Solid understanding of power electronics, electrical schematics, and control systems.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as Modbus (serial and Ethernet).
- Professional demeanor and strong customer service orientation.
