Initial salary placement will be determined by the Office of Human Resources in accordance with the faculty collective bargaining agreement and is not negotiable. Primary Purpose

Teach college‑level courses in Communication Studies and serve as Co‑Director of Forensics (Speech and Debate), responsible for developing and expanding the intercollegiate competition program.

Essential Functions
  • Teach courses such as Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Small Group Communication, Argument and Critical Thinking, and Forensics.
  • Develop curriculum, serve on departmental and college committees, and participate in professional development.
  • Co‑direct the forensics program: coaching, fundraising, budgeting, student travel documentation, recruiting, traveling for tournaments, judging, and related duties.
  • Maintain professional conduct, support student learning, develop culturally responsive pedagogy, and maintain office hours, meetings, and administrative responsibilities.
  • Possibly work evenings and weekends as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in speech, communication studies, or related field (or Bachelor’s plus Master’s in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English, or valid California teaching credential). Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity, with sensitivity to diverse student populations.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience directing or assisting high school/college forensics teams.
  • Experience coaching speech/debate, recruiting, budgeting, travel arrangements, and judging.
  • Recent college teaching in relevant subjects.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills, commitment to student success, instructional technology proficiency, and experience with Open Education Resources.
  • Experience mentoring historically marginalised communities.
