American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor Pool – Part‑Time

  • Salary Range: $1,572.67 – $1,725.85 per lecture unit rate; $1,572.67 – $1,725.85 per lab parity unit rate; $1,258.16 – $1,380.60 per lab unit rate (per current adjunct salary schedule)
Job Description

Cypress College is creating a pool of qualified ASL instructors to fill part‑time assignments on an as‑needed basis. When a need arises, the department will reference this pool.

Special Requirements
  • All degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript with award date posted.
  • Grade cards are not acceptable.
  • All degrees and coursework must be from accredited postsecondary institutions.
  • Evaluation of foreign degrees is required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience related to teaching in the assignment.
  • OR Associate degree AND six years of professional experience related to teaching.
  • OR valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college for the subject area.
  • Commitment to diversity: demonstrated sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students, faculty, and staff.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Recent lower‑division or community college teaching experience.
  • Ability to develop effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.
  • Ability to engage student interest across learning styles.
  • Experience incorporating instructional technology.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience teaching or mentoring historically and socially minoritized/marginalized communities, including African‑American/Black, Chicanx/Latinx, Pacific Islander, Native American, women, LGBTQIA+, and people with disabilities.
