The Role
We’re seeking a Kitchen Prep to support the Director of Culinary Services in preparing meals and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen. In this role, you’ll assist with food prep, basic cooking, and dishwashing while ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and safely.
Responsibilities- Perform routine kitchen tasks, including washing dishes and sanitizing surfaces
- Follow prep lists to plan daily duties
- Label and stock ingredients so they are organized and easily accessible
- Measure ingredients and seasonings for cooking
- Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, and cutting vegetables, meats, and other items
- Set up workstations and ingredients for recipe-based cooking
- Perform basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling, and preparing simple dishes like salads and entrees
- Ensure proper storage of food and supplies according to guidelines
- Maintain a clean kitchen, including equipment, cooking surfaces, cold and dry storage, and dish storage areas
- Follow nutrition and sanitation guidelines
- Ensure safe work practices and compliance with safety standards
- Foster teamwork, take initiative, and support coworkers, residents, and visitors
- Report any elder maltreatment or abuse to the Director of Health and Wellness, Executive Director, and/or State
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum one year of food service experience
- Obtain Food Handlers Permit as required by state regulation
- Must be 18 years or older and meet all health requirements, including TB clearance
- First Aid certification required
- Compassion for and desire to work with the elderly
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact with residents, staff, and vendors
- Self-motivated, able to work independently, and make decisions
- Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
- Pleasant, professional, and personable demeanor
