What you need to know about us

We are Athora Netherlands, an insurance company with the well-known brands Zwitserleven and Reaal. We are mainly involved in pensions and life insurance in the Dutch market. We are part of a European group with offices in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany and Italy. We are a strong company with over one million customers and we want to grow into one of the most important players in the rapidly changing pension market in the coming years.

That is why we are looking for people who are not afraid of change, who are getting things done, who have the ambition to achieve results and who therefore know how to get the best out of themselves and their team. Smarter together, we call it.

What are you going to do?

Athora has a specialized Assumptions & Parameters team responsible for reviewing and determining non-economic assumptions and parameters such as experience mortality, lapse and disability. As the Lead of the Assumptions & Parameters team, you will take on a key position within Finance Actuarial and the broader actuarial landscape. You are the accountable specialist, strategic advisor and connector - combining deep knowledge of actuarial methods and models with strong communication skills and stakeholder management.

  • Experience:

10-15 years of experience in financial (actuarial) reporting and model development within the insurance or financial sector.

  • Education:

A Master’s degree in econometrics, actuarial science or a related quantitative field.

  • Technical knowledge:
Familiarity with Solvency II and/or IFRS 17 and economic capital models.

You are able to leverage new technologies and tools for research and process improvement.

  • Collaboration:

You have a proactive mindset and actively seek collaboration within and outside the team. You have experience with reporting to and advising senior management.

  • Continuous improvement:
You are committed to improving and automating our research processes.

  • Management:
Experience in planning, managing and organizing resources to define and achieve team objectives within the short to medium term.

As Lead of the Assumptions & Parameters team[:, you will be responsible for:

  • The annual review of non-economic parameters, including experience mortality, lapse and disability.

  • Planning, parameter documentation and giving presentations to senior management, (external) auditors and other stakeholders.

  • Resolving (methodological) findings raised by the actuarial function, model validation, the external auditor and the Dutch Central Bank (DNB).

  • Maintaining and further developing the economic capital model for mortality, and translating outcomes into balance sheet and risk-management implications.

  • Providing strategic advice to senior management, including well-substantiated opinions and risk assessments.
    Specialist:
With your knowledge of insurance products and statistical models, you play a crucial role in the analysis of non-economic parameters and their impact on the Solvency II balance sheet.
    AI and automation:
Thanks to the rise of powerful AI tools and modern data and programming platforms, you help make our parameter research more efficient and effective.
