Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager or Director to join our growing Multistate State and Local Tax (SALT) practice. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in multistate income/franchise tax and indirect tax compliance, with a strong ability to manage complex client engagements, oversee delivery teams (including team in India), and drive strategic value through technical insights and operational excellence.
This position offers significant leadership opportunities, including practice development, client relationship management, and mentoring of junior professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multistate SALT compliance engagements for a diverse portfolio of corporate clients across various industries.
- Oversee preparation and review of complex multistate income/franchise and sales/use tax returns, including combined/consolidated filings, apportionment analysis, and nexus studies.
- Evaluate and advise on state tax implications of business activities including mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and expansions.
- Provide guidance on state‑specific and national SALT compliance regulations and developments.
- Lead internal process improvement and automation initiatives related to SALT compliance.
- Serve as the main point of contact for client executives and build long‑term relationships through strategic advisory and value‑added services.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with federal tax, international tax, and other advisory teams on integrated tax planning.
- Mentor and supervise SALT team members; contribute to talent development and technical training initiatives.
- Participate in business development activities, including proposal development and presenting at industry conferences/webinars.
Qualifications
- CPA or JD/LLM required.
- 8–12 years of progressive experience in state and local tax, with a concentration in multistate compliance and consulting for corporate entities.
- Strong technical knowledge of multistate income/franchise tax and indirect tax regulations across key jurisdictions.
- Proven track record managing compliance projects with a high degree of complexity and coordination across multiple states.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and project management skills.
- Experience working with middle‑market and privately held businesses.
- Prior experience in a Big 4 or national accounting/consulting firm preferred.
