Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Casual Groundsperson position. The Casual Groundsperson is a part-time, casual position with no benefits.

The expected salary range for this job opportunity is: $ per hour.

The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations.

The Casual Groundsperson will maintain and care for the College's grounds and structures. The Casual Groundsperson takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Landscape & Grounds Maintenance
  • Clean-up of property
  • Snow removal
  • Raking, lawn mowing, and seasonal outdoor work
  • Operation of trucks and other motorized equipment
  • Service and inspection of tools and equipment
  • Assist other shops within the Facilities Department, which may include moving furniture, books, etc.
Qualifications:

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid driver's license and successful credentialing is required in order to operate college vehicles
  • 6 months of experience
  • Strong customer service, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Familiarity in operating motorized equipment, including lawnmowers, weed trimmers, etc.
  • Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community
  • An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test
