AMHERST Summer Camp Director – 19 hours per week through May 2026, 37.5 hours per week between June 2026 and August 2026. The Summer Camp Coordinator Director is responsible for the overall planning, implementation, and supervision of the Town of Amherst’s "Fun in the Sun" Summer Day Camp program.
Occasional Weekend and Evening Availability Required. MAJOR DUTIES
- Responsible for the overall planning, administration, implementation, and supervision of the Town of Amherst’s "Fun in the Sun" Summer Day Camp program, in compliance with Local Board of Health regulations and established policies and procedures.
- Coordinates scheduled visits and visitors, including guest speakers and performers.
- Responsible for pre‑camp organization (e.g., material and supply ordering, organizing group rosters, ePACT information, parent communications), program development, staffing, and related logistics, including ePACT records reviews.
- Develops and implements engaging and age‑appropriate daily camp schedules and activities; coordinates scheduled visits and visitors, including guest speakers and performers.
- Monitors transitions on and off campus (e.g., between activities, to presentations, to lunch; trips to War Memorial Pool).
- Communicates regularly with parents/guardians on scheduled events, upcoming opportunities, necessary adjustments, and general performance feedback.
- Addresses behavioral and medical issues as they arise, in consultation with the Outreach Director; administers discipline for campers, in consultation with the Outreach Director and parents/guardians.
- Manages camp check‑in and pickup times daily.
- Manages Extended Day staff and activities.
- Reviews accident and incident reports and takes any necessary action, in consultation with the Outreach Director.
- Responsible for keeping track of and maintaining camp supplies and equipment in good condition.
- Assists with recruiting, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluation of camp staff and CITs; assists with implementation and development of staff training; manages staff time entry.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation, including attendance and incident reports.
- Participates in and assists with facilitation of leadership team meetings, conferences, in‑service training programs, and staff meetings.
- Assists with budget management.
- Helps manage volunteer teams for the Town of Amherst July 3rd Independence Day Celebration event.
- Performs other similar or related duties as assigned, required, and/or appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Three (3) or more years of college experience PLUS completion of a camp administration course; OR two (2) years of camp experience AND completion of some camp administration work; OR equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and strong leadership abilities.
- Considerable knowledge of child development and management.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to plan and supervise the work of staff.
- Basic computer skills or willingness to learn.
- Willingness and ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours.
- Must successfully pass Criminal Offender Registry Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background checks.
