Job Summary

The Assistant Director for Student Leadership will provide leadership for a comprehensive student engagement and student leadership program for residential communities.

Essential Functions
  • Primary responsibilities include coordinating and implementing learning centered student leadership program; serve on a team of staff members focused on developing and assessing student learning plans for residential students. Participate in the development of the curricular approach to student learning in the residence halls including developing educational plans, lesson plans, and assessment methods.
  • Develop, implement, and assess student learning initiatives for all student leader roles in residence halls, including, but not limited to, House Councils, Residence Hall Association, and National Residence Hall Honorary. Coordinate recognition events and initiatives.
  • Advise the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). Support RHA involvement in the Northeast (NEACURH) and National (NACURH) Associations of College and University Residence Halls by maintaining the University’s membership in these organizations, advising student conference delegations, and maintaining expert knowledge of all NACURH and NEACURH processes and procedures. Support RHA and NRHH in maintaining up‑to‑date and accurate constitution and by‑laws documents and support compliance with governing documents.
  • Coordinate election and selection procedures for residence hall student leader roles; maintain up‑to‑date rosters.
  • Oversee fundraising contracts on behalf of RHA with appropriate commercial vendors, University and Residential Life liaisons.
  • Lead Student Staff Selection and placement processes for all Resident Assistant and Peer Mentor positions. Ensure compliance with related selection and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate enrollment of student staff candidates in EDUC 391R: CORE, a one‑credit, pre‑employment requirement of all undergraduate live‑in staff candidates. Serve as lead instructor for EDUC 391R.
  • Attain working knowledge of applicable collective bargaining unit agreements (CBA) for student staff.
  • Lead the recruitment, selection/hiring and coordination of Minute Mover student leaders who serve a critical role in the success of Fall Move‑In. Serve on the campus Move‑In Planning committee and provide leadership and direction to all aspects of Move‑In that involve Minute Mover students. Provide on‑site supervision to Minute Movers during Fall Move‑In.
  • Provide high‑quality supervision of assigned staff including Office Manager, Minute Mover Coordinators/Team Leaders, and student office staff. Implement staff performance management processes, progressive discipline, and recognition efforts for all positions within scope of supervision.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and training to all Residential Life staff related to areas of responsibility. Lead committees related to position responsibilities. Provide back‑up support to other Residential Life colleagues, including providing support to supervise a residence hall community in the absence of a Residence Director.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with campus partners to support student leadership initiatives, including, but not limited to, Campus Life and Wellbeing, College of Education, Student Leadership and Engagement, Residential Services, Disability Services and Student Affairs Communications.
  • Responsible for budget management in area of responsibility including monitoring, forecasting, and reporting of variances/problems and recommending solutions. Ensure financial resources are utilized in accordance to established policies and procedures.
