The Employee Relations Specialist is part of our Employee Services team and focuses on guiding complex employee relations matters to ensure fair, consistent, and legally compliant outcomes. The individual will work with functional managers across our UK sites, acting as a trusted advisor to balance business objectives with employee well‑being.
The role involves managing cases end‑to‑end – investigations, disciplinary processes, grievances, performance management – while promoting a positive workplace culture and minimising risk. It also contributes to continuous improvement by identifying trends and recommending policy updates.
Key Accountabilities- Deliver timely employee relations advice and guidance to managers, within acceptable risk limits.
- Coach and upskill managers to develop ER capability within the company.
- Collaborate with People Partners, Advisors and the Legal team to resolve complex ER cases.
- Identify case trends to design, deliver and implement upskilling sessions for managers.
- Review and update People Instructions, Toolkits and Knowledge Guides to reflect legislative changes and best practice.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of all case actions and documentation.
- Respond to casework team mailbox enquiries in a timely manner, usually within 24 hours.
- Analyze diverse points of view and draw appropriate conclusions.
- Apply problem‑solving, conflict management and confident advisory skills.
- Negotiate, persuade and influence effectively.
- Build rapid and positive relationships with managers, Employee Voice Representatives and, where relevant, Trade Unions.
- Assess ER risks, and follow the HR delegation process to resolve cases within the legal framework.
- Coaching and advisory skills balanced with questioning techniques.
- Strong verbal and written communication with high attention to detail.
- Prioritize tasks and work well under pressure.
- Collaborative team player with a drive for continuous improvement.
- CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent experience.
- Significant experience managing high volumes of complex ER cases at pace.
- Experience upskilling managers to improve knowledge and confidence, and mentoring of junior team members.
- Experience working in complex organisations and with advanced technologies.
