Field Service Representative Intern (8-12 Week Internship)

Job Summary

We are seeking a Field Service Representative Intern to join our team! This 8-12 week internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on exposure to the industrial water treatment industry while working alongside experienced field professionals. In this role, you will travel to customer locations with team members to observe and assist with routine service activities, equipment inspections, and water treatment program monitoring.

Most responsibilities will be performed under the direction of experienced team members, with the goal of developing the technical and customer‑service skills necessary to succeed in a future Field Service Representative role. Strong interns will be considered for full‑time employment as a Field Service Representative following completion of the internship.

Job Responsibilities
  • Project professional image of the Company through positive attitude, punctuality and reliable attendance
  • Follow all Company and customer policies, including safety and quality procedures
  • Travel with experienced team members to customer locations to observe and assist with routine service activities to monitor water treatment programs and collect operational data
  • Assist with delivery and installation of water treatment systems at customer sites
  • Assist with documenting service activities and preparing basic service reports
  • Learn how to identify equipment issues and support troubleshooting efforts under guidance
  • Assist with inventory tracking and product usage at customer locations
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by learning about water treatment technologies and systems and completing all training, as required
  • Travel regionally with team members in order to gain exposure to a variety of customer facilities and water treatment systems
  • Maintain an organized approach to daily work, ensuring tasks are prioritized and completed efficiently
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Currently in the final year of an Engineering degree program or a recent graduate with a degree in Engineering
  • Mechanical aptitude and interest in working with equipment and industrial systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to learn in a hands‑on, field‑based environment
  • Must reside within 30 miles of Ames, Iowa, throughout duration of internship
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally with team members or drive separately to meet them at customers sites
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in industrial environments, which may include hot or noisy facilities and outdoor conditions
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear a half‑ or full‑face respirator if required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework related to water treatment, chemistry, mechanical systems, or environmental engineering
  • Internship or work experience in manufacturing, industrial operations, or technical service
  • Interest in pursuing a career in technical service, water treatment, or industrial process support
