Child Development Teacher PRN – Intermountain Health

Join our team as a part‑time Child Development Teacher responsible for providing a safe, nurturing environment for children.

Base Pay Range

$18.00 /hr – $23.00 /hr (based on experience)

    Based on Experience
  • Shift Details: PRN (0‑40 hrs/wk) – primarily Afternoon shifts (2:00 pm – 7:00 pm), Monday‑Friday. Hours vary week to week; most PRN teachers work 2‑3 shifts per week and receive a schedule at least a week in advance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Six months of experience working in an early childhood program
  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire
  • Food Handlers Permit within 60 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Development/Education or a closely related field (Elementary Education, Family‑Life Studies, Child Psychology). Degree must be from an accredited institution and will be verified.
  • Certificate in Early Childhood Development (CDA – Child Development Associate)
Essential Functions
  • Establish a developmentally appropriate, safe, welcoming, clean, and nurturing room environment.
  • Provide direct supervision of children at all times.
  • Interact warmly with children using approved early childhood education standards and attend promptly to their physical and emotional needs.
  • Follow all regulatory standards and best practices outlined by the Utah Department of Health and Child Care Licensing; complete 20 hours of required training annually.
  • Accurately and professionally maintain daily records required by State Licensing, including incident reports, attendance sheets, and daily record sheets.
  • Organize engaging and educational activities, materials, and daily schedules that meet developmental goals for each child.
  • Maintain observation notes, conduct formal assessments, and provide portfolio documentation to assess children’s progress; share developmental updates with parents regularly and hold two formal parent conferences annually.
  • Observe and recognize any difficulties individual children have mastering developmental milestones or behavior; discuss follow‑up actions with the leader and parents if needed.
  • Act as a team player and a continuous learner.

  • Ability to proactively resolve conflict and remain calm under stress.

  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to react quickly in emergencies to keep children safe.
  • Basic computer knowledge (Outlook Email, Microsoft Word, Internet navigation, uploading documentation) to maintain records, complete required training, communicate with parents/staff, and plan curriculum.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent interactions with children, colleagues, clients, and visitors requiring verbal communication and hearing.
  • Manual dexterity for manipulating supplies and equipment; frequent computer/tablet use; perform routine care duties (changing diapers, sanitizing/cleaning, preparing/serving food, medication/bottle preparation).
  • Ability to lift, carry, and hold children up to 35 lb.
  • Expected to respond quickly to an emergency by running after a child in danger and performing all CPR/First Aid actions.
