This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Part-Time Supplemental Instructor - Truck Driving who will be all-in on our mission and who provides high-quality, hands-on training in the safe and effective operation of commercial motor vehicles. This role contributes to student success by reinforcing classroom instruction, facilitating skills development, and mentoring students to meet state, federal, and industry standards for commercial driving.

The Supplemental Instructor works collaboratively with faculty and staff to ensure that all students receive a consistent, supportive, and engaging learning experience.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Required:

High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred:
Associate's Degree in Transportation/Logistics, Automotive/Diesel Technology or a transportation-related field.

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Three (3) years of verifiable commercial truck operations experience.

Preferred:
Previous instructional, training, or mentoring experience in a truck driving or transportation-related field.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Required:

* Valid Class "A" Commercial Driver License (CDL).

* Three (3) year safe driving record.

Preferred:

* CDL endorsements: N (Tank Vehicle), S (School Bus), T (Double/Triple Trailers).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

* Provide supplemental classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to support student learning and skill development.

* Deliver instruction that aligns with approved curricula, state/federal guidelines, and industry best practices.

* Train students in the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles including, but not limited to: tankers, doubles/triples, flatbeds, dry vans, and refrigerated trailers.

* Facilitate hands-on learning experiences that emphasize safety, compliance, and professionalism in commercial driving.

* Assist students with coursework, skill practice, and internship preparation.

* Prepare lesson support materials and maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.

* Teach classes during the day, evening, and/or weekends as assigned.

* Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and required trainings.

* Maintain a safe and orderly instructional environment, ensuring proper use of equipment and vehicles.

* Complete administrative duties, including performance evaluations, reports, and compliance documentation, in a timely manner.

* Perform other work-related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Demonstrated expertise in commercial vehicle operation and related safety standards.

* Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal regulations governing commercial motor vehicle operations (FMCSA, DOT, etc.).

* Ability to apply instructional technology in classroom and field settings.

* Strong verbal communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.

* Ability to engage diverse student populations with patience, professionalism, and respect.

* Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

* Ability to handle stressful situations and maintain professionalism.

Salary:
Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.

Pay grade 10 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. The role also requires the ability to lift and move materials weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds. In addition, the position demands a full range of mobility, including climbing, crawling, bending, pulling, and lifting, in order to effectively demonstrate truck operation procedures.

Working Environment:
This position involves regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Training is conducted at Amarillo College Campus locations in Amarillo, Hereford, and Dumas, as well as on local streets and highways. The role requires flexibility and adaptability to diverse instructional settings, including classrooms, training yards, and on-road environments.
