Overview

PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

Responsible for performing scheduled HVAC filter changes throughout the District. Assist in repair of HVAC equipment, building plumbing, and restoring equipment. Assist in identifying, diagnosis and repairing malfunctions in all areas of HVAC equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Clear and Valid Texas Driver’s License

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to read a variety of correspondence, lists, forms, work orders, schematic electrical plans, etc.
  • Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape
  • Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination
  • Ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color
  • Knowledge of the principles of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide
  • General proficiency in the use of mechanic tools
  • General proficiency in the use and operation of personal computers
  • Ability to maintain simple logs and records, as well as the ability to generate reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignment

Work

Conditions:

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Electrical measuring and testing equipment; welding equipment; hand tools; power tools; hoist; plumbing tools and equipment including pipe bender; propane torch; hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including forklift, trencher, backhoe; light truck or van
  • Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
  • Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
  • Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
  • Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; may work on rooftops; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; work around gas lines; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; may work irregular and prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress

Minimum Experience:

One year of experience in general maintenance and equipment repair

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Perform scheduled HVAC filter changes throughout the District.
  • Perform tasks associated with receiving information and entering appropriate data in equipment repair spreadsheet in order to create schedules of work for assigned equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Prepare correspondence, lists, work orders, etc., using prescribed format.
  • Assist with troubleshooting on site repairs.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Assist with repairing, maintaining and rebuilding district-wide equipment.
  • Operate specialized power tools including but not limited to electrical drills, grinders, saws, sink augurs, sewer machines, soldering torches, oxy-acetylene torches, and vacuum pumps.
  • Review specifications on performance of equipment.
  • Test repaired equipment for compliance with both safety and manufacturer’s standards.
  • Check and replace electrical motors, belts, vacuum hoses, batteries and compressors.
  • Performs general equipment maintenance activities.
  • Respond to emergency repairs for on site service.
  • Use the computerized inventory system to maintain accountability of equipment repair parts.
  • Attend all required district and department meetings and trainings.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Abide by State and Federal laws, District policies, campus expectations and Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned
