Water Quality & Environmental Technician – $20/hr + ~20 hrs OT Weekly
Location: Amarillo, TX (local candidates strongly preferred)
Start Date: January 19, 2026
Duration: 5‑month, project‑based assignment (approximately January–June)
Schedule: Full‑time with consistent overtime (approximately 60 hours per week)
Role Overview (Important To Read Before Applying)
This is a hands‑on, labor‑intensive field role supporting a large municipal water compliance project in Amarillo. While the project relates to environmental and drinking water initiatives, the day‑to‑day work is physical, repetitive, and production‑focused
.
This position is not lab‑based and not analytical environmental science
. It is best suited for candidates who are comfortable with manual labor, long hours, and outdoor work
, and who want a short‑term role with strong overtime earnings
.
What You’ll Be Doing (Day‑to‑Day Reality)
- Travel street‑by‑street to residential and commercial locations within Amarillo
- Dig repeatedly at water meter boxes using hand tools
- Identify and document water service line and pipe materials
- Take clear, accurate photographs of exposed pipes
- Record data using GIS systems via a tablet or handheld device
- Restore each site to its original condition after inspection
- Move efficiently from site to site throughout the day
- Work as part of a buddy system with field oversight
This role involves repetitive physical tasks performed for long hours outdoors
.
Schedule, Hours & Overtime
- Expect approximately 60 hours per week
- ~40 regular hours
- ~20 hours of overtime consistently
- Long workdays are standard; this is not a traditional 9–5 schedule
- Ideal for candidates seeking maximum earnings over a defined, short‑term assignment
Travel & Transportation
- All work is local to Amarillo
- Technicians may:
- Use a company vehicle, or
- Use a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed; insurance requirements apply)
Training & Experience
- No prior environmental experience required
- Onsite training provided
- Entry‑level candidates are welcome if they understand and accept the physical nature of the role
Helpful But Not Required Experience Includes
- Utility or water/wastewater work
- Construction, surveying, or manual labor roles
- Field inspection or outdoor work
Hard Skills
- Ability to perform manual digging throughout the workday
- Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs of equipment
- Basic ability to use tablets, cameras, and GPS/GIS tools
- Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately and consistently
Soft Skills
- Strong attention to detail (data accuracy and photo quality matter)
- Reliability and strong work ethic
- Comfort with repetitive tasks
- Willingness to perform hands‑on labor without issue
- Ability to work well with a partner and follow field supervision
