Position DescriptionProvides primary care as part of a health care team in a specialty discipline. The role involves patient education and counseling, physical assessment, and interaction with patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff. Duties may include travel to outreach clinics and participation in educational efforts outside normal working hours.
Major/Essential Functions- Obtain health histories and perform comprehensive physical and gestational age assessments
- Collaborate with the neonatologist regarding plans of care
- Provide staff education
- Stabilize and transport ill infants to Level III nurseries via ground and air transport
- Assist with obtaining operative/procedure consents
- Write orders
- Incorporate developmental care into patient care giving
- Promote family‑centered care and healthy infant‑parent attachment
- Participate in patient rounds
- Collaborate with physicians from other disciplines
- Attend morbidity and mortality rounds and medical conferences within the institution
- Perform procedures necessary to aid in identifying a diagnosis
- Care for a caseload of patients
Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program; current RN license in the State of Texas or the ability to transfer your license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate specialty from an approved program recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Recognition by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advance Practitioner.
Preferred QualificationsPrior experience working in a neonatal intensive care unit.
