Position

Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

Position Summary: The LVN functions under the supervision of the charge nurse or RN, delegating any tasks within the scope of practice for an LVN. The LVN is responsible for providing safe, compassionate, and focused nursing care to assigned patients with predictable healthcare needs, applying continuous quality improvement principles and collaborating with the health team. The LVN supports an organizational culture of Service Excellence and adheres to the Service Excellence Standards for all customer groups.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The LVN assists in determining the physical, mental, and psychosocial health status, needs, and preferences of culturally, ethnically, and socially diverse patients and families. The LVN collects data, recognizes changes in conditions, and reports findings to the RN or charge nurse. The LVN participates in the nursing process by appraising the patient’s status and may perform focused assessments as part of a more extensive evaluation performed by an RN.

The LVN assesses risks to patient safety and implements the appropriate precautions, ensuring compliance with organizational and accreditation standards. The LVN also supports measurement, assessment, and improvement of performance in clinical and support services and maintains regulatory compliance with The Joint Commission, Texas Department of State Health Services, and the Texas Board of Nursing.

Qualifications
  • Education, Training, Experience, and Licensure:
    Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
    Current Texas nursing license or permit.
    Current BLS certification (American Heart Association) upon hire or within 30 days, maintained throughout employment.
    IV certification for acute care and ER/FED assignments (Med/Surg, Critical Care, Emergency Room/FED).
  • Physical and Sensory Requirements:
    Ability to read and write in English.
    Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, and others.
    Ability to remain calm under stress and respond to pages.
    Ability to evaluate and interpret information, make independent decisions, and identify relevant data for clinical and operational activities.
    Physical ability to bend, lift (25 lbs. minimum), grasp, coordinate fine hand movements, push, and pull.
