ResponsibilitiesAssumes shift responsibility and accountability for the planning and provision of direct and indirect nursing care to patients, families, care partners, and appropriate others. Coordinates multidisciplinary team members, directs and facilitates nursing staff in obtaining safe, optimal health‑care outcomes. Supports activities that meet the facility vision, mission, and goals. Provides professional leadership and support to the healthcare team. The concepts of Patient‑Centered Care provide the foundation for all nursing care.
Demonstrates Service Excellence standards at all times.
Develops, implements, and evaluates an age‑appropriate plan of care utilizing the nursing process, clinical skills, and patient education. Maintains professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources. Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, families, visitors, and employees. Assesses risks to patient safety and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with standards approved by the organization and accrediting agencies, as well as safety and injury‑prevention standards.
LeadershipExcellence
Utilizes appropriate leadership skills in delegating and providing feedback concerning staff performance. Demonstrates initiative, collaborative approach, and sound judgment in day‑to‑day management at the unit level.
Operational ExcellenceManages departmental outcomes to include patient, family, peer, employee, and physician satisfaction through effective communication and responsiveness to customer issues. Accountable for appropriate staffing for each shift, based on patient census, acuity, and available resources.

- De‑escalation training within 90 days of hire; does not require maintenance
- Ongoing compliance with clinically pertinent competencies as determined by the facility
