Job Duties
- Performs work in accordance with relevant directives (Federal Standards, Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, Corporate Directives, plant Process Documents, Work Instructions, Desk Aids, and written instructions, etc).
- Accountable for all direct output assigned and for providing direct output support to his/her manager.
- Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as assigned by their manager.
- Actively supports the Plant Safety Program.
- Provides feedback to their manager when exceptions in the process are encountered.
- Understands a worker’s right to stop work when they feel his/her own or other’s personal safety is jeopardized.
- Reports all perceived unsafe conditions or acts through their management or through other reporting mechanisms as appropriate for the situation.
- Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.
- Understands and complies with the Human Reliability Program (HRP) requirements applicable to their position.
- Maintains their work area in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
- Utilizes resources responsibly to minimize waste and maintain efficiency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Conducts workplace evaluations under the direction and supervision of an Industrial Hygienist and/or IH Team Leader, to include:
- Initial review of workplace evaluation data
- Facility/Workplace walk down to determine existing and new tasks
- Employee interviews to determine existing and new tasks
- Supervisor interviews to determine new, changed and planned processes
- Observations of work, as needed, to aid in determining sampling strategy
- Selection and calibration of instruments to be used in sampling
- Surveillance of work processes
- Proper collection and handling of samples to ensure chain of custody requirements are met
- Documentation of sampling conducted and results obtained
- Maintains IH sampling equipment in ready status for sampling to include:
- Proper storage of instruments to protect from loss or damage
- Ensure that batteries are properly charged and ready for use, as applicable
- Ensure that cord and plug instruments are properly handled to prevent electrical safety hazards
- Ensure that all instruments used in the Material Access Area (MAA) are on the equipment list
- Calibrate instruments as required
- Report any discrepancies in equipment storage, use, calibration or safety to their supervisor
- Ensures proper housekeeping:
- Maintain their work space in a neat and orderly manner
- Ensure that the equipment storage and calibration areas are clean, uncluttered and ready for use
- Ensure that any and all sampling materials and waste is properly disposed of at the work location or in the IH Operations facility
- Follows Conduct of Operations:
- follow all Safety and Industrial Hygiene requirements for use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during sampling procedures
- Apply Integrated Safety Management principles to the work being done
- Follow written procedures for sampling
- Request assistance before proceeding when unsure of procedures
- Stop work when you feel that the work in progress may present a hazard to yourself, co‑worker, the equipment, the facility or the environment
- Assists as requested in Emergency Response drills, exercises and real‑world events
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be able to meet initial employment requirements.
- Must be able to read, write and comprehend applicable written and/or instructions.
- Must be physically fit to perform their assigned job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation.
- Must be able to work under general supervision.
- Must be able to perform applicable job functions within their area of work.
