Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Phlebotomy Coordinator uses venipunctures, capillary blood specimen collections, point of care testing (POCT), andmostrar related procedures under the philosophy, policies, and procedures established by the hospital and the Department of Laboratory Services. The Phlebotomist assists in the training and guidance of phlebotomy students and new employees and supports an organizational culture of Service Excellence.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Practice the profession of phlebotomy in the area(s) of assigned responsibility according to accepted standards of practice as outlined by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), CLIA ’88, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and other regulatory agencies, and according to the approved policies and procedures of the organization, department, and/or the laboratory Medical Director.
  • Participate in and support a process to measure, assess, and improve performance in the areas of assigned responsibility. Perform phlebotomy and waived testing procedures in assigned areas of the laboratory, clinics, outreach facilities, health fairs, and home‑bound patient locations, optimizing the efficiency and quality of pre‑analytical, analytical, and post‑analytical laboratory procedures.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Education:

    High school graduation or equivalent required; successful completion of a phlebotomy program preferred. desfrunt?
  • Minimum

    Work Experience:

    One year of full‑time experience preferred.
  • Certifications:

    PBT (ASCP) required or eligible (to be obtained within 12 months of employment).
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire or within 30 days of start date and maintain certification throughout employment; must be obtained prior to providing patient care.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years.
