Job Title

Behavioral Health Tech/No Degree

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, house supervisor, and charge nurse, the Behavioral Health Technician attends to patient direct‑care needs and performs tasks delegated by nursing staff. The role is part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, assisting in safety, treatment delivery, daily living activities, observation rounding, documentation, and training of new employees.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain current BLS certification.
  • Hold current Handle with Care certification.
  • Attend at least 80% of departmental staff meetings and required in‑service trainings.
  • Demonstrate proper infection‑control procedures and adhere to safety policy.
  • Present a neat, professional appearance consistent with hospital dress code.
  • Comply with local, state, federal, and JC standards and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures specific to the position/department.
  • Maintain proper boundaries when interacting with patients, families, and co‑workers.
  • Seek direction or clarification from the supervisor when necessary.
  • Treat patients with respect according to patient rights and responsibilities.
  • Communicate in a positive, compassionate, and professional manner with patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Respond to mail and correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence by acknowledging cultural differences and adjusting behavior accordingly.
  • Comply with hospital attendance policy.
Qualifications
  • Current BLS certification (American Heart Association) on hire or within 30 days.
  • One of the following: 2 years of patient‑care experience, EMT certification, Medical Assistant certification, or a high school diploma/​equivalent.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, lift, and move around the work area.
  • Ability to hold, grasp, push, or pull variable body weight when restraining patients.
  • Expression of ideas verbally in an audible and accurate manner.
  • Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks within established time frames and remain flexible in working hours.
  • Maintain self‑control in volatile or hostile situations.
  • Set therapeutic limits and maintain therapeutic distance with clients.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
