What You'll Do

The candidate will be responsible for reviewing and/or developing high quality detailed design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs, and providing expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant systems. Design involves the preparation of conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost‑estimating bills of material and man‑hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and title II engineering deliverables including preparation of calculations and analyses, construction specifications & drawings, and equipment specifications.

The candidate must effectively and cooperatively work as a team member of an integrated project team, or as a technical lead for a multi‑discipline task and will routinely provide input to system engineers and other plant customers. The engineer will routinely perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.
The engineer will apply technical expertise and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the Fire Protection Engineering field to include fire suppression systems and/or fire alarm systems. The fire protection design engineer will provide self‑performed technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems through the application of established engineering practices, codes, and standards. Field troubleshooting support of existing systems will be required to inform design for corrective maintenance activities.

Fire Protection Suppression engineer should have experience in systems such as potable water and fire‑protection supply systems to inculde sectional and lead‑in valve design, fire riser design, hydraulic calculations, sprinkler system layouts, application of codes and standards in the design of these types of systems. The engineer may use experience in systems such as conduit/cables schedules, conduit/equipment plans, one‑line diagrams, wiring/connection/schematic diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, various sections/elevations/details, calculations, datasheets, and construction specifications.
The engineer may review/develop piping designs, fire riser details, sectional valves, lead‑in valves, sprinkler system layouts, fire penetration seals, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, cabinet assembly drawings, system diagrams, and control logic for both batch and continuous processes using conventional analog instrumentation, distributed digital control systems, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).

Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Protecting Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) and 4 years of relevant experience
  • OR a Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Protecting Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA and 2 years of relevant experience
  • OR a PhD in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Protecting Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a minimum 3.5/4.0 cumulative GPA
  • There is a minimum GPA requirement up to 4 years post‑graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript
  • Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire
