Perform routine clerical and technical duties so the librarian is free to work directly with students and teachers.

Qualifications
  • Minimum

    Education/Certification:

    High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate’s degree or higher OR meet the rigorous standard of quality required by the district.
  • Library Technical Assistance training – preferred.
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong communication, public relations, organizational skills.
  • Computer skills mandatory; proficiency in typing and keyboarding.
  • File maintenance skills.
  • Ability to shelve books following district cataloging system.
  • Ability to work well with children.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
Work Conditions
  • Tools/Equipment:
    Standard office equipment (computer, peripherals), library imaging equipment, instructional equipment.
  • Posture:
    Regular sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting.
  • Motion:
    Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and mouse use; regular overhead reaching; ladder climbing.
  • Lifting:
    Frequent light lifting (under 15 lbs); occasional moderate lifting (up to 40 lbs).
  • Environment:
    Work inside, alone; exposure to biological and chemical hazards such as mold and dust.
  • Mental Demands:
    Frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Regular attendance is essential.
Minimum Experience
  • One or more years preferred in an office or library clerical position.
Preferred Experience with School Age Children
  • Experience working with school‑age children.
Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional
  • Assist students and teachers in locating print and electronic information; instruct on computer/internet usage, electronic card catalog, and other online databases.
  • Help students create a final product using all library resources.
  • Read to small groups of students and listen to individual students read aloud (elementary only).
  • Supervise and monitor students as assigned; assist librarian and teachers to maintain appropriate behavior and an orderly atmosphere.
Technology
  • Help with operation, instruction, and maintenance of library technology devices; assist students and teachers with the online automation system.
  • Operate, instruct, troubleshoot, and maintain audiovisual equipment and other equipment in the library.
Acquisitions/Cataloging/Collection Maintenance
  • Maintain library automation systems by loading, attaching, or deleting records.
  • Periodically publish updated lists of new materials, recent acquisitions, video inventory, etc.
  • Assist the librarian with annual inventory; correct electronic shelf list as needed.
  • Maintain records of material ordered and received.
Circulation
  • Use online circulation systems to check materials, create library cards, maintain records (overdues, inventories); keep check‑in/out calendar for equipment.
  • Assist students and teachers in locating print and non‑print resources.
  • Locate and prepare carts of materials needed by teachers for classroom projects.
Clerical
  • Operate library in absence of librarian; perform duties such as logging onto online databases.
  • Submit work orders for equipment repairs; maintain and order supplies as requested.
  • Maintain organizational integrity of the library facility, including shelving, displays, and bulletin boards.
  • Maintain financial records relating to lost book payments, book‑fair sales, and overdue fines.
Other
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes, including the Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Perform such other tasks and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
