Purposeof Position
The Simulator Maintenance Technician II is responsible for accomplishing the day‑to‑day maintenance of aircrew training devices, which include the Weapon System Trainer (WST), Boom Operator Trainer (BOT), Fuselage Trainer (FuT), Part‑Task Trainers (PTT), and Learning Center. Duties include analyzing malfunctions and performing repair, calibration, inspection, overhaul, modification, re‑programming, maintenance support and operation of simulators, trainers, computers, and digital image visual systems.
Work may be reviewed by higher level Technicians III to ensure compliance with accepted practices and/or standard operating procedure. Work being performed for the first time and any task for which the employee is not documented as being proficient will be reviewed by higher level Technicians.
The following duties are essential to the successful and satisfactory performance of this job. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform all inspections of trainers.
- Repair KC‑46 ATS Aircrew Training Devices (ATD) and related equipment.
- Operate ATDs at all aircrew/instructor positions to evaluate operation of all systems.
- Analyze/repair discrepancies noted during preflight or reported by instructors/aircrew.
- Visually inspect complete simulator device (computer and peripheral) for loose connections, leaks, and defective components.
- Accomplish preventive maintenance functions on a continuous basis and replace defective components, as required.
- Perform overhaul of components, as necessary.
- Coordinate maintenance activities to achieve maximum utilization of trainers.
- Trouble‑shoot malfunctions and isolate defective systems.
- Repair, replace, calibrate, adjust, and modify trainer/computer components.
- Bench‑check unserviceable units and determine need for adjustment or disassembly and repair.
- Disassemble trainer assemblies, detect faulty parts, and replace faulty parts with new or locally manufactured parts, and then reinstall required equipment.
- Install redesigned or additional components, reroute existing wires or add new wiring circuits, make program changes, and load program into the computers.
- Perform final calibration and functional tests.

- Must have a High School diploma or GED.
- Preferred to have completed a civilian or military Electronics Principles course.
- An Associate’s Degree in an electronics field or completion of VoTech Simulator Maintenance Programs is highly desirable; or BSEE or BSME degree is highly desired.
- Must have completed TRAINING as fully qualified SIM TECH I; OR Three to five years’ experience as a Flight Simulator Technician or equivalent is desired.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex non‑routine problems.
- Experience should include component level test and repair of microprocessor‑controlled equipment.
- Morally and ethically influence others to successfully achieve program goals.

- Demonstrate ability to work with minimum supervision and in conjunction with other personnel.
- Display ability to exercise good judgment and to assume responsibility for accuracy and completeness of work.
- Display ability to repair, overhaul, rebuild, align, and adjust complete multi‑systems.
- Demonstrate and apply comprehensive knowledge of all major units of the complete multi‑system to achieve operating specifications.
