Overview Of

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Light Rail Engineer to design transport solutions from concepts to construction details using the latest digital design delivery methods. The focus is on delivering innovative and safe project solutions that drive efficiency and social value for our clients.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Work on light rail, tramway and bus rapid transit projects for local authorities or contractors, developing innovative solutions and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Lead projects at feasibility and concept design stages, producing engineering drawings with Autodesk or Bentley applications.
  • Utilise BIM: develop BIM Execution Plans, promote Mott Mac Donald’s internal BIM Standard, and deliver models in Navisworks or similar.
  • Manage model delivery in Common Data Environments and ensure compliance with project quality procedures, financial and programme targets.
  • Ensure delivery of assigned project work without re‑work.
  • Build client satisfaction by working with a range of public and private clients across business units.
  • Collaborate with the team manager and project manager, maintain a delivery culture, manage project elements through all phases, proactively address technical obstacles and report issues.
Candidate Specification
  • Degree qualified

    B.Eng (Hons) or M.Eng in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Working towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years post‑graduate experience.
  • Experience across multi‑discipline design projects, with a broad understanding of light rail or tramway design standards.
  • Proficient in design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Open Roads.
  • Strong communicator with excellent verbal and written skills in English.
  • Problem‑solving ability and capability to work to deadlines autonomously.
  • Knowledge of tramway/light rail alignment, trackform/tramstop design principles.
  • Workplace health & safety awareness.
  • Willingness to work away from home when required.
