The Inpatient Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct, hands‑on care to patient under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The CNA assists with activities of daily living in accordance with the individualized care plan. This role plays a vital part in maintaining a safe, clean and supporting environment. The Inpatient CNA collaborates closely with the healthcare team to promote patient comfort, dignity, and optimal recovery, ensuring care is delivered in alignment with standards and regulatory guidelines.
Hours:
- PM/NOC Position - Shifts between 3pm - 6:30am end times.
- 8 hour shifts
Specific Tasks Include:
- Advocate for patients’ rights, preferences, and needs, ensuring that they receive high-quality, compassionate care that is tailored to their individual circumstances.
- Project a professional demeanor and appearance while maintaining the confidentiality of the patient, coworkers, and the organization, as appropriate.
- Provide direct patient care and assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and oral hygiene, in accordance with the individualized care plan.
- Assist patients with mobility and positioning, including turning, transferring, ambulating, and use of mobility aids, while ensuring patient and staff safety.
- Measure and record vital signs, intake and output, and report abnormal findings promptly to a Registered Nurse.
- Observe and report any changes in patient condition, behavior, or safety needs to appropriate clinical staff.
- Assist with patient nutritional needs by delivering meals, feeding patients as necessary, and monitoring dietary intake in alignment with prescribed dietary restrictions.
- Perform daily glucometer and strip quality checks as required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment by changing linens, cleaning patient care equipment, and following infection prevention protocols.
- Respond promptly and professional to patient call lights and requests to ensure comfort and timely support.
- Accurately document care provided and patient responses in the electronic health record in accordance with policies.
- Support patient admissions, discharges, and transfers by preparing rooms and assisting with personal belongings and patient orientation.
- Active participation in frequent purposeful rounding.
- Participate in shift handoffs and interdisciplinary communication to promote continuity and quality of care.
- Performs routine room audits, inventory of outdated supplies, inventory and stocking of supplies in patient rooms, utility rooms, med carts, and on the unit.
- Demonstrates proper technique with pre‑operative scrubs and shaves as requested.
- Handles/transports specimens, labs and biohazardous material as directed by manager.
- Participates in quality improvement activities as requested.
- Respond promptly to departmental call‑ins and operational needs to maintain continuous coverage and support.
- Use the organization’s secure messaging platform in accordance with departmental protocols, including timely receipt and responses to communications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Medical terminology.
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
- Quality assurance and accreditation standards.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality laws and patient rights.
- Effective English communication in verbal and written form.
- Quality work including attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Carry out customer service standards.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Prioritize tasks effectively through managing workload based on urgency and importance.
- Continuously learn and improve through staying up to date on job specific trends, policies, and new technologies.
- Successfully demonstrate organization‑wide performance review competencies.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
- Current CNA licensure in the State of Wisconsin.
- BLS certification is required upon hire.
- Previous experience as a CNA is preferred.
