Description/Notes: Middle School Special Ed Deaf Aide or Communication Facilitator Teacher. At Will Position with an August 1, 2026 start date, dependent upon August 2026 enrollment. Provides equal access for hearing impaired students to all areas of public education and to facilitate communication between students, general education teacher, school personnel, and school related personnel.
Qualifications- Associate degree or at least 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university or eligible for Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) exemption/ or
- BEI Interpreter Certification through Texas Commission for the Deaf (required)/ or Associate in Interpreter Training Program
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
- Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and ability to communicate with students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH)
- Command of sign language systems and vocabulary used by students and the educational program
- Some experience in working with children
- Temperament to work with students who are D/HH and other disabilities
- Ability to work in tandem with the classroom teacher in providing communication assistance for student who are D/HH
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with teacher(s) and students
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
Based on Alpine ISD Salary Schedules, with supplements dependent upon credentials and experience.
