- Education: Terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in curriculum and instruction, a relevant content area discipline (with pedagogical training or relevant experience), or a closely related field of study; active and valid teacher certification in good standing.
- Experience:
- Ideal candidate is collaborative and has strong expertise in one or more academic content areas.
- At least five (5) years of experience as a certified classroom teacher (preferably in the EC‑6 environment).
- A valid teaching certification.
- A demonstrable record of supporting student success.
- A clear vision for educator preparation.
- Preferred:
- Experience working with students identified as EB/EL and/or served by Special Education.
- Experience as a teacher leader (e.g., instructional coach, district level content specialist, or campus-level administrator/instructional leader).
- Demonstrable skill with data analysis and instructional coaching – specifically related to improving student performance against measurable learning outcomes.
- Experience teaching as an adjunct instructor.
Summary:
The College of Education is seeking a terminally degreed (PhD or EdD) candidate with at least 5 years of experience as an educator in the PK‑12 setting for a faculty position in teacher preparation. The successful candidate should have experience teaching in an academic content area (e.g., math, science, ELAR, and/or science), a demonstrable record of success as an educator, a certification (in good standing) in an academic category in the teaching class, and experience working with students with special needs and/or with EB/EL students.
Preference will be given to candidates with EC‑6 certification, bilingual/ESL certification, and/or those certified to work with students served in Special Education. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience as an instructional coach and/or to those who have experience in writing curriculum.
Scope:
College of Education Faculty. Scope and duties:
Once in appointment, the new faculty member will be responsible for performance in the areas of teaching, research, and service, with greater attention given to teaching and service. Daily functions will include instruction, teacher candidate supervision, and service in efforts to advance the quality and impact of the College of Education’s mission to prepare and equip education candidates for service as teachers and in service to our district partners.
Supervision:
Reports to the Chair of the Education Department; primary duties and responsibilities will be to the Sul Ross State University International operations in the Eagle Pass, Del Rio, and Uvalde region.
Usual:
Eight-hour workday, forty hours per week, with some early or late hours depending on workload; and attendance at various university, community, and school activities. This position is security sensitive. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.
