QualificationsRequired:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sports Administration, Physical Education or related field.
- CPR and First Aid certification or must be certified during initial month of hire.
- Must be enrolled in at least 6 graduate course hours per semester.
Purpose
The Department of Recreational Programming will utilize graduate assistants to assist the professional staff in the administration, daily operations and development of a multi-faceted recreation program. Graduate Assistants will assist with student personnel management, special events, and various administrative duties. Evening and weekend hours will be required.
General Responsibilities- Adhere to Department of Recreational Programming mission, vision, and policies and procedures.
- Promote and support departmental standards and programs.
- Exhibit highest commitment to student development and customer service.
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills and maintain a professional appearance for all assignments and activities.
- Represent campus recreation and student affairs in a positive way and conduct yourself professionally while attending meetings, collaborating with colleagues, working with student team members or participants.
- Demonstrate ability to take initiative, problem solve, consult with direct supervisor prior to handling difficult situations that cannot be satisfactorily solved independently.
- Collaborate effectively as a member of a goal-oriented team, and meet deadlines.
- Participate in program initiatives/programs and departmental special events, committees, etc. as assigned by your supervisor.
- Maintain affiliation and involvement with national, regional, and state recreation associations.
- Attend weekly meetings and collaborate with team members to complete tasks.
- Work for the best interests of the students of Sul Ross, and the department of recreational programming.
- Participate in the special trips and events that the department sponsors, which may include overnight camping or adventure trips.
- Help organize, support, and maintain all recreational facilities.
- Prioritize student wellness and safety in all programs.
- Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating student team members, interns, and practicum students.
- Assist with managing payroll, operating budgets, reports, coordinating projects, program promotion and marketing, budget reporting and analysis, risk management, facility maintenance, program evaluation/assessment and analysis, general program planning, and development.
- Assist with the overall student and program development.
- As directed by supervisor, conduct weekly/monthly staff meetings and in-service trainings.
- Assist with the development and execution of departmental special events.
- Participate in departmental assessment efforts to continually enhance services.
- Assist with facility supervision and operational responsibilities for all recreational programming facilities and programs.
- To communicate concepts and instructions efficiently to a variety of learning styles.
- To integrate knowledge into practical applications by developing organized processes for managing crisis, enforcing policies and diffusing conflict.
- To develop leadership, personal responsibility, and teamwork.
- To set SMART objectives to accomplish goals and manage responsibilities.
- To interact, facilitate and lead diverse groups and individuals.
- To uphold commitment, ethics, values, integrity and contribution to being a successful team member.
- Technical skills needed to run an effective recreation and outdoor program.
Reports to the Coordinators of Recreational Programs.
