This job is a 29-hour part time, TRS covered, non-benefited, FLSA non-exempt position in the Technology and Operation Division that reports to the Sergeant at Gwinnett Technical College. This position’s primary location will be the Alpharetta Campus. This role involves safety-sensitive responsibilities and requires pre-employment drug testing, fingerprint and regular background checks, psychological evaluations, deception tests, and reference checks as part of the employment condition.
In addition, due to the high-risk nature, once hired, the position is also subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Commensurate with education and experience not to exceed the budgeted amount of $31.20/hr.
Scheduled HoursVaried shifts, Monday – Thursday 5:30 am – 11:30 pm, Friday 5:30 am – 7:00 pm and Saturday 6 am – 5 pm.
Minimum Qualifications (Job Code T1701)- High School or GED
- GA P.O.S.T Law enforcement certification is required
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
- Five (5) years of police law enforcement experience
- Campus law enforcement experience
The Campus Police Officer performs a full range of assigned law enforcement duties to maintain security and order on a technical college campus. Qualified applicants that are invited to interview will be asked to complete a TCSG Pre-Employment Questionnaire prior to completing the interview portion of the selection process. If offered the position, following the delivery of a written conditional offer of employment, the selected candidate must participate in/successfully complete the following post-offer screening activities: criminal history records check, medical examination, drug screening, psychological evaluation, deception test, and a motor vehicle records check.
Duties/Responsibilities- Guards and monitors buildings. Answers alarms and investigates disturbances;
Investigates criminal complaints and vehicle and other accidents — 20% - Coordinates with State Patrol and adjacent law enforcement jurisdictions;
Apprehends criminal suspects and turns over to local jurisdiction for booking or incarceration — 3% - Inspects assigned area for fire or environmental hazards — 2%
- Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against and maintain security of premises — 10%
- Patrols premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates — 10%
- Ability to patrol assigned areas and identify signs of unlawful entry — 5%
- Knowledge of all pertinent federal, state, and local laws regulations — 5%
- Responds to fires, natural disasters or other hazardous events — 5%
- Warns persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehends or evicts violators from premises, using force if necessary — 5%
- Writes reports of daily activities and irregularities — 5%
- Coordinates disaster response or crisis management activities such as opening shelters, special needs programs and evacuation — 3%
- Inspects equipment and facilities to determine their operational and functional capabilities — 2%
- Collaborates with others to prepare and analyze damage assessments following emergencies — 3%
- Escorts or drives motor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations and to provide personal protection — 10%
- Directs traffic during special events;
