Senior Claims Examiner, Labor Law

Position Summary

Senior Claims Examiner, New York Labor Law – Arch Insurance Group Inc. is seeking an experienced claims professional to join the Casualty Team in the New York Labor Law division. The role will oversee a caseload of third‑party administrator (TPA) claims handlers, provide oversight for commercial New York Labor Law cover, liability, and damage claims, and manage the entire claims process from investigation to resolution.

• Identify and assess coverage issues, draft coverage position letters, and retain coverage counsel when necessary.
• Develop and implement strategy relative to coverage issues that align with the overall strategy of the handler’s care.
• Resolve matters of liability and damages for particular cases, including analysis of coverage, liability, and damages for reserve assessment.
• Investigate claims and review insureds’ materials, pleadings, and other relevant documents.
• Review litigation materials including depositions and expert reports.
• Direct risk transfer, additional insured issues, and contractual indemnity issues; retain counsel as needed.
• Prepare and present written/oral reports to senior management setting forth all issues influencing evaluation and recommending reserves.
• Travel to and from locations within the United States to attend mediations, trials, and other proceedings relevant to the resolution of the matter.
• Negotiate resolution of claims and select and utilize structure brokers.
• Maintain a diary of all claims; post reserves in a timely fashion and respond expeditiously to inquiries from insured, counsel, underwriters, brokers, and senior management regarding claims.

• Hands‑on experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

• Bachelor’s degree required;
  Juris Doctorate preferred.
• Three to five (3‑5) years of working experience supporting primary and/or excess claims experience handling New York Labor Law claims.
• Energy, Casualty, Construction, and/or Rail experience is a plus.
• Proper Adjuster Licensing in all applicable states.
• Willing and able to travel 25%.
• Hybrid role – 2 days in office; 3 days remote.

Base salary range: $123,400 – $150,000 per year. Position is incentive eligible. Hybrid role (2 days in office, 3 days remote) with 25% travel.
