Duties & Responsibilities
- Handle high-exposure, complex bodily injury and property damage claims across the U.S. (excluding New York).
- Manage all aspects of claim handling, including investigation, coverage analysis, evaluation, and litigation management.
- Evaluate claims, develop case resolution strategies, and handle mediations and trials for complex claims.
- Develop and implement claim resolution strategies, including identifying claims suitable for trial.
- Retain and direct defense counsel on litigated cases.
- Communicate with Underwriting regarding industry trends and legal developments impacting product lines.
- Assist Underwriters in reviewing policy submissions as needed.
- Lead special projects and perform other duties as required.
- Occasional travel for mediations and trials.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, insurance, or related field.
- 8+ years of relevant legal or insurance experience with general liability claims.
- Juris Doctorate with insurance coverage or defense litigation experience is beneficial.
- Experience handling liability claims involving bodily injury and property damage, with significant exposure under primary and excess policies, especially in southern U.S. states and California.
- Strong knowledge of case law, statutes, and procedures affecting general liability claims; experience with various insurance risks (construction, premises liability, marine, etc.) is a plus.
- Proactive investigation, risk transfer, strategic handling, and claims resolution skills are essential.
- Excellent writing and communication skills for effective interaction with insureds, claimants, underwriters, and management.
The salary range is $121,763 - $177,469, with total rewards including bonuses, stock ownership, and benefits. The actual offer depends on location, experience, and qualifications.
