job summary:
A Controls Engineer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Alpharetta, GA area. This role involves designing, programming, and commissioning low and medium voltage generator paralleling switch gear systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards while leading cross-functional collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams.

responsibilities:
- Interpret customer specifications and drawings while applying NEC, UL (508, 891, 1558, MV), CSA 22-2, and ANSI standards.
- Design, test, manufacture, and commission custom generator paralleling switch gear and control systems.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) in the ERP system.
- Direct CAD designers to develop wiring and assembly drawings.
- Provide support during equipment manufacturing and production.
- Write and validate PLC code using IEC 61131 languages (Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text).
- Interface with various PLC platforms (Schneider, Allen-Bradley, Woodward, Easy Gen, LS5).
- Manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
- Interact with internal/external customers to meet project milestones.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering fields preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience (Associate's degree with 7+ years also acceptable).
- Internships do not count toward experience requirements.
- Proficient in PLC programming using IEC 61131 standards.
- Experience with control system design, testing, and commissioning.
- Ability to develop control software and integrate multiple PLC controllers.
- Experience with generator protection relays and utility interface applications.
- In-depth understanding of NEC, UL, CSA, and ANSI standards in switch gear design.
- Familiarity with protective relays and generator/utility synchronization functions.
